It's All The Same to An Oyster (Part 1). Discovering the Inner World of One Nature's Key Animals: Family-friendly interactive Workshop

Tarbert Library

Tuesday 23rd June, 2pm - 4pm

Hosted by University of Glasgow Coastal Conservation Field Course

Oysters are probably best known as something served in restaurants, but they are actually animals that are vital to the coastal waters of the world. Join us for this family-friendly afternoon for an interactive workshop to learn about what it's like to survive as an oyster, from their early days floating in the water to their adult years stuck to the sand.

The first half will be aimed at primary children, with a puppet show on undersea life for under 5s, some marine life show-and-tell, and a paper craft workshop aimed at 5-10 year olds (although big 'kids' are welcome too).

Film Screening: 'Telling Hopeful Stories of Herring and People of the Scottish Minch'

Tarbert Community Centre (Main Hall), Pier Rd, Tarbert, Isle of Harris

Monday 22nd June, 19.30pm - 21.30pm

Hosted by Lydia Martens, University of Edinburgh.

Herring Stories of the Minch is a film co-created with coastal communities to tell the stories of herring: of the cultures that evolved around fishing and eating herring and of the generosity of a fish that has fed many generations of people and marine animals. Poignantly, the film asks what was lost when herring disappeared from the Minch and what the potential return of herring might mean for local culture, human livelihoods, marine wildlife and biodiversity.

The film’s teaser may be accessed on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/1122047124?share=copy#t=0

FREE event - no need to book, just come along!
